Designer (liveries and textures)
Updated Oct 13, 2026 Open the tool
The Designer is the workspace tool at /app/design where people paint FiveM vehicle liveries and the textures inside YTD, YDR and YDD files on a layered canvas while a 3D preview updates live. It replaced the legacy Design Studio (/design/studio, also called "the editor" or /editor), which redirects to it since the workspace went live on 2026-09-20. The old pages, limits and menus are kept under Internal at the end for staff; nothing there is what a user sees now.
The Designer (/app/design)
Open it from the rail (Design group) or drop a YTD, YDR, YDD or YFT on the workspace and the Designer opens with the file. It has layers and effects, text and shapes, a graphics library of decals and patches, and AI on the canvas: generate a livery or a patch from a description, refine a part of the picture. The stage shows the model wearing the canvas as you paint (the live 3D preview). Saving writes a YTD, a DDS or a PNG; edited textures can be written back into the YTD or YDR they came from. Designs are kept as projects (project tabs, a start screen and a picker), so a person can return to one later. Since 2026-10-02 every export (PNG, DDS, YTD, or textures written back into their file) is also kept in the model's project in the library as a version, with the design itself, so Open in Designer in that project opens the design with its layers on another computer or browser; AI liveries made on a model land in the same project. A design never exported stays in the browser it was made in.
The same Designer opens inside other tools when they need a canvas: Liveries (ER:LC, /app/erlc), Roblox Clothing (/app/outfit) and the Create tools' textures. Photoshop and Photopea users paint in their own editor instead and see the result on the model through the plugin (/app/plugin) and the Preview tool (/app/preview); the Preview tool also accepts a PSD or PNG exported from any editor without a plugin.
What the Designer does not do: it does not make the UV template for a vehicle that has never had a livery. That is the UV map tool (/app/uv). Rule of thumb: no livery slot yet, start with UV map; the vehicle already takes liveries, paint in the Designer.
Nothing open (2026-09-28). The layer list is a dashed box that opens a vehicle, prop or YTD (press it or drop the file on it), the same as the middle of the tool; once a sheet is open and has no layers yet, the box reads Add an image and takes PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG pictures as layers, several at once. The Designer that other tools open (ER:LC liveries, clothing) shows the same Add an image box.
Limits on Free, Lite and Booster
Since 2026-09-23 the Designer is free with a daily allowance on Free and Lite (Plugin Pass) accounts, and since 2026-09-30 on Discord boosters too (they had no limits before); Standard, Referrer, Pro and Max have none of these limits:
- 20 minutes of editing a day (30 until 2026-09-27), counted only in minutes where something on the canvas changed; looking, zooming and exporting are free. When used up the canvas says "Editing time used" and is read-only until midnight UTC; everything painted stays and exporting still works. "N min left today" shows once half the day remains (a third until 2026-10-06). From the second day the person has used the Designer in the last 30, the lock's line adds "used N of the last 30 days" (since 2026-10-06; the UV map and Vehicle tools say the same on their Free lines).
- Exports are 1024 pixels on the long side ("1024 x 512 on Free" under Save); 2048 shows locked.
- YTD and DDS exports: 3 a day (PNG is not counted; a failed export gives its count back; writing edited textures back into a YTD or YDR counts as one).
- The live 3D preview opens for 3 models a day (the same model again that day is free).
- 3 designs.
AI on the canvas (generate, refine, patches) spends credits on every plan; the price is on the button. When a limit is reached the button becomes Unlimited on any plan and opens the plans dialog (/app?plans=all).
Common questions
Do I need an account to use the Designer? Sign in with Discord to use the workspace. On Free the Designer works with the daily allowance above; game files (YTD, YDR, YDD, YFT) are read by the conversion server, so they need the sign-in.
"Editing time used", what now? Free, Lite and Booster accounts get 20 minutes of canvas edits a day (30 until 2026-09-27; boosters since 2026-09-30). Everything you painted stays, and you can still export; editing comes back at midnight UTC (the canvas shows the time in your zone). Standard and up have no time limit.
Export as DDS or YTD is locked or used up. What do I need? Free, Lite and Booster get 3 YTD or DDS exports a day at 1024 pixels; PNG is always free. Standard, Pro and Max export without limits and at full size.
Which files can I open? YTD, YDR, YDD and YFT (the textures inside them), plus PNG, JPG and PSD pictures. Drop the file on the workspace or open it from Assets.
Can I see my design on the car before exporting? Yes. The stage shows the model wearing the canvas as you paint. For a picture to share, use Preview's Render tab (Showcase for one item, Pack for a folder).
Where did the Design Studio, the Showroom, the templates and the graphics library go?
The Design Studio is the Designer (/app/design). The Showroom, Outfit Render and Outfit Catalog are the Preview tool (/app/preview, tabs Showcase and Pack). The graphics library lives inside the Designer. Community templates are not part of the workspace.
How do I make a livery for a car that has no livery?
That is the UV map tool (/app/uv), not the Designer: it makes the livery UV template for the vehicle YFT. Then paint the livery in the Designer.
